Tech Prep at a Glance
Tech Prep is a credentialed program designed to guide secondary students through a focused, goal oriented program of academics, career education and positive off-campus learning experiences, so that they may be able to identify and act upon viable career options within their areas of interest.
The New Alberta Career Credential - AC˛

AC˛ - Rationale for the Change
The Tech Prep Credential, and the affiliated career education work it served as a catalyst for, has changed the way young people learn and prepare for post-secondary education and work in Alberta. The credential was first introduced in 1995 and since then has either been used directly or adapted for use throughout the province.
Fifteen years later, due to the changing work, education and curriculum environment and the desire to apply lessons learned, the credential is undergoing a review to better position it in the career education field and further contribute to improvements in the way young people plan and manage their learning, life and work. These changes are being made for both the benefit of young people themselves and for the broader community they live, learn and work in. The outcome of the new credential is not simply to prepare young people for their next career step; the overall outcome is competency in career management.
Preliminary work on the credential review has been undertaken by a blue ribbon panel of career practitioners and educators in Alberta. The Alberta Career Credential (AC2) has been drafted with the overall goal to make it available and relevant to all students in Alberta. The rationale of inclusivity is that all students will need career management competency to thrive in the economy/society of the future Alberta and jurisdictions beyond.

The Alberta Career Education Network (formerly know as the Alberta Career Prep Consortium) is responsible for the administration of the Tech Prep Credential Recognition process across the province.
If you have students involved in Tech Prep, please submit Tech Prep Credential Recognition forms via fax 403.340.2890 no later than May 30th.
